Description
Birds Love its Fruit; Butterflies Feed on its Nectar
The Barbados Cherry brings the birds and the butterflies, and many compliments. The evergreen shrub is a wonderful choice as a dense screening hedge. It offers up delicate pink blooms, followed one month later with bright red tart cherries packed with Vitamin C. You can use these in baking or in juices – if the birds don’t get them first.
Native to the West Indies and southern Texas, the Barbados Cherry can grow up to 6 ft. tall. The shrub does best in part shade with well-drained soil.
