Description

One of our Most Popular Small Shade Trees

The Japanese Fern Tree is neither Japanese, nor a fern. What is it? It’s a lovely, bushy evergreen whose long thin fern-like leaves grow out from its stems. The tree’s symmetrical globe-like top offers dense shade wherever you plant it. (And, just in case you were wondering, it is originally from India and East Africa.)

A moderate grower, it can reach 20 to 25 ft., but slowly. It prefers full to part sun, watering on a regular basis, and well draining soil. Evidence has proven that it is wind tolerant. In South Florida, it survived hurricane force winds that sent other trees toppling.
