Overview:  The Natal Plum (Carissa macrocarpa) is a versatile and attractive evergreen shrub native to South Africa, ideal for both ornamental and practical uses in gardens. This hardy plant features dense, dark green, glossy leaves that provide a lush, year-round display. In spring and summer, the Natal Plum blooms with fragrant, star-shaped white flowers that contrast beautifully against the foliage. Following the blooms, the plant produces bright red, edible fruits that are sweet-tart and can be used in jams, jellies, or eaten fresh. The thorny branches of the Natal Plum make it an effective natural barrier or hedge, adding security and beauty to landscapes.
