A Sunny, Sprawling Groundcover That Charms with Yellow Daisy-Like Flowers
The Beach or Dune Sunflower blooms year-round in warm climates. The genus name Helianthus derives from the Latin Heli (sun) and Anthus (flower). A magnet for bees and butterflies, many birds like to feast on its seeds. An interesting fact about these perennials is that the flower head will follow the sun throughout the day.
The Dune Sunflower grows up to 2 ft. tall. It can spread quickly, and plants merge together to form large patches. Drought-resistant, the Dune Sunflower prefers moist, well drained sandy soil.
